Home Assistant OS (HAOS) with Proxmox VE 8.0 Install Guide

It should have worked, but the ova of 13.0 has been cancelled due to problems in virtual machines.

here planning to move my rpi installation to proxmox (cause I want Nextcloud AIO, some dockers running and freak with proxmox all that I can). I will tell you how was the migration! Thank you for the post!

UPDATE: turns out this was the solution … I had to remove the (two) failed disks

DEPRECATED:
Just installed proxmox VE 8.2 today (since it’s all the rage with the kids apparently) and the first VM I’m trying to play with is HA of course since there is this script here…however when I run it, it bombs out :frowning: I see above some issues, but wondering if this is a known issue and is there a work-around or do I just wait for a new version of the script? I tried both “default” and “advanced” (as per article) a few times and reboots but it is always the same error…

Thank you very much. Am switching to Proxmox after an ESXI crash. This is working wonderfully.

Apologies for jumping in with a question but didn’t want to start a whole new thread in case this was an easy fix…so here goes

I had been running Proxmox 7 and all was good…no issues at all…

Upgraded to Proxmox 8 a while back and whilst normal usage is totally fine, I now have an issue where when I take a snapshot of the HASS VM, the whole system (HASS) locks up and the way to get it back up and running is to instantly rollback to said snapshot and then all is working as it should.

This definitely never happened with Proxmox 7…so I am wondering if I have done something wrong when upgrading the system…or if there is a new switch that needs to be ticked that I am not aware of.

Let’s be honest, this is a 1st world problem and adds 60 -90- seconds into my process but it would be nice if it worked as it used to every time

Thanks in advance

Because I want more than one integration running of 1 specific integration, I am thinking of running a second HA in a vm ( somebody told me, I am not that clever).

Is that an option ?

It is an option, however be aware not all devices can be shared between instances.

I have to try. otherwise it is an extra module of a 1000 euro’s

If you can share which device you want to try I might be able to provide heads up info.

There are also two more possibilities if the device does not play ball.

Create virtual instances of the device and connect one HA to the actual device. This way you will have two instances controlling the device virtually, while one will be physically connected.

You could achieve this using HA helpers with/without MQTT and/or Node-Red, depending on circumstances.

The other alternative is to use MQTT for the device, in which case you can have multiple instances of HA talking to MQTT.

I have 3 smartboxes of duotecno. I have to fill in an IPadress, password and portnumber. Then I get the connected switches and lights imported. But the integration says it is only possible to have 1 integration.
So someone said : try to run an instance of HA in a seperate VM and connect them by using Remote assistant.

In theory you should be able to use multiple HA instances to access the PLCs.

so, how do I start ? I have HA already running on proxmox. (I followed some guideline, I have no knowledge at all)

I suggest you DO NOT touch your current HA instance.

Create a new HAOS VM in Proxmox and just add the same integration using the same login details. If you can connect to the PLC all is good. If the integration fails to connect then the PLC only allows a single login and therefore you cannot use two HA instances.

In such case you option is to get a CANbus to MQTT gateway, then connect your PLC to the MQTT gateway, which will then allow you to connect as many HA instances as you like to the MQTT broker. The broker can live inside one of the HA instances, although I strongly suggest it lives in an LXC under Proxmox.

I case you have no experience on Proxmox, HA, etc you could consult my guides, which require having some background in information technology (they are not aimed at complete novices).

The developer has already replied to you that it is on his todo list in a separate thread.

Despite all that, in the meantime you can follow what others have done on other integrations and simply try to load multiple versions as a custom component.

Yes, you will have to keep up with any breaking changes and change the code manually, but it’s better than having to send back something you just bought for 1000€ just because you couldn’t get all 3 instances set up in HA.
