Integrating Tado Bridge X fabric into HA using Matter/Thread

I am running a Tado Bridge X with two Tado X thermostats and one Tado X temperature sensor connected to this TBR.

While waiting for the official HA update of the Tado integration to also support the X devices, I was wondering whether I can control the X devices by integrating the Tado X fabric into HA using the native Matter/Thread integration.

In the Thread integration, I can see the Tado Thread network as preferred network but I see no Matter devices in the Matter integration. I — being a newbie to Matter/Thread — expected to see the devices connected to the Tado X bridge.

Am I mistaken and the integration of existing Matter/Thread fabrics doesn‘t work like this in general? Or is this an individual problem of the Tado X bridge? Am I doing something wrong?

In tado app go to “settings”, “rooms and devices”, select desired device, scroll down to “device linking” and from there you can share it to HA trough matter.

I am running the iOS Tado app version 8.10.0 and I don‘t have this „device linking“ option, neither on my iPhone nor on my iPad.

I’m also very interested in understanding whether the Thread TBR are accessible for joining a different pre existing thread network, did you find a way to gather their network info and keys? Or, better, having them connect to another network?

No, I was neither able to integrate the Tado X Thread network into HA nor to share the Tado X TRVs with HA. But it is my understanding that others has success, see this thread.

On the other hand, there is an update for the existing Tado integration on the way which will probably be part of HA 2024.12, see here. But this is not what I was looking for since the HA Tado integration uses the Tado API and therefore requires a Tado account. I was looking for controlling the TRVs completely locally.

Although quite stylish, the Tado X TRVs come with some limitations I didn‘t like: open-window detection only with a paid Tado account; heat curve not stored locally (when you lose your internet connection, they stay in their current state); Tado-specific battery pack; no once-a-week cycle to keep valve moving; … I sent them back, got a refund and will try the Bosch TRVs some day.
