I ordered the new Hue Bridge Pro and it contains a migration assistant to transfer all lights/sensors from the old bridge to this new version.
However, I am using the Hue integration and I assume I will need to remove the old bridge there and add the new one.
Will this cause all my existing automations to stop functioning or will they get the exact same entity ID’s from the new bridge so that everything stays working as it was?
Migration to the Pro bridige is not the problem. All lamps, sensors and remotes will be transferred to the Pro bridge.
No issues at my side except 1 big thing!
HA has not updated the Hue integration yet!!!
The new Pro bridge is not recognized by HA.
Because of this none of my Hue automation are working anymore until the new bridge is recognized.
Via matter it will work but keep in mind you are not able to see you Hue scenes via Matter.
I am waiting for the integration update and made an Github ticket to get it fixed.
That’s what I already said, on the Philips-side there is a migration that transfers all your devices, so no problem.
But I am talking about the Home Assistant side. Even if the integration gets fixed to recognize the Bridge Pro, there is still a possibility that after switching bridges all your existing devices are seen as new devices (with different entity/device ID’s), breaking all your existing automations.
That’s what Im worried about, but I guess the only way to find out is when somebody actually tries it.
I have just installed 2025.9.1. Hue Pro bridge is recognized and no new entities created.
It looks like everything works the same as it was with the previous bridge.
@_Mike As far as I can see, they are available as a switch in HA. I think it is a Hue automation which can be switched on an off in HA. To switch this on and off does not work yet in HA.
Keep in mind that in some situations you need the lux to trigger lamps. This is not available if you trigger the lamps via the new Zigbee option.
Second, this feature works only in rooms with 3 or more lamps.
How is it recommend in HA : do nothing before migrating from old hue Bridge to the new hue Bridge pro? (or… remove the hue Bridge in HA or… whatever, backup, write down entity names etc…?)
Side questions on hue Bridge pro :
How is it working? Any noticeable difference?
Does it still work with “works with hue” devices? (e. g. Gledopto)? (i have some issues with hue and those ones and i hope for better with the new bridge)
I just received my Bridge Pro and was able to try the migration.
The first time, I went to the Hue integration and clicked ‘Add Hub’ and added the Bridge Pro, but it was added as a second bridge (with new entities for all existing devices). Which was exactly not what I wanted, because all automations were broken.
Then I reverted to a backup from midnight, and after the restart it had only a single bridge (the new one), with all entities intact. So my guess is it was automaticly converted during the restart, I did not even have to remove the old one.
So whatever you do, do not click ‘Add hub’ but just restart HomeAssistant so it does the conversion automaticly.
Just went though the upgrade seamlessly, even handling some new lights that needed updating. Replaced old Hue hub in Hue app with new Hub. Paused migration after updates so new lights could be upgraded in the Hue app settings. After that continued with migration, at the end of which it asks you to reset the old Hue hub. After all that completed I rebooted by Home Assistent raspi through the Home Assistant app, and everything appeared.
Bonus for me was getting the new Hue lights appearing in my Apple Home which had not appeared before this switch. I am not sure what step made this possible, but it was a relief as I thought I would have to remove Home Assistant from Apple Home and add again to pick them up. The reason I have to do this is the rest of my family are reluctant techies, so having all the home assistant devices appear in Apple Home is a bonus.
The recommended way would probably be that you don’t attempt it until Hue has sorted out multi-bridge migration on their end.
If you really want to do it, I don’t expect there to be any other way than to migrate one bridge automatically and add the rest of the lights manually, which obviously will leave you with a ton of new entities/devices to deal with in HA as well.
So I have four bridges. Yes - you read right. But with a 2400 square foot home and indoor and outdoor lighting it just works out that way. I am excited to bring it all home to one bridge because sometimes you can not mix things between bridges. So has anyone tried multiple bridges? I have each bridge under it’s own account so they can be accessed remotely. Would you not be able to just migrate a bridge at a time and they merge?
I have two hue gen 2 bridges that both use the same user ID and I can control all lights remotely using the same app.
Hue updated so that with multiple hubs you see all your rooms in one view and the only limitation ( I am pretty sure of this) is a motion sensor can only control lights on the same hub. I maybe mistaken though.
I broke mine up to Front and Back of house to divide the load more or less evenly.
I am keen to get the new bridge but wait until hue have the multi hub transfer out.
