In the meanwhile my battery powered TadoX thermostat is connected via matter using the ZBT-1 (formerly know as SkyConnect) with NAT64 enabled and so now also controllable via the app. For me it’s fine like this as I only let the heating change determined by conditions set in home assistant automations e.g. being away from or coming home.
Currently the Tado integration is broken (official and custom) although some people seem to get it working somehow… following the steps just goes from one error to another error and not getting anywhere.
So I added the Thermostat to the app… that works and you can set it up from there… but even in the Tado app sharing a Matter device is not possible on iOS
So I added the Thermostat to Homekit on my iPhone and shared the matter device from there to Home Assistent… that works perfectly without any cloud connection to Tado.
Don’t think I will ever use the integration anymore, Matter does it for you
how yuo did this?

I tried but it remains in connecting.
Then how you connect home assistant to homekit?
Simple really… open Homekit, add device, scan the code and you’re set… then you go in the device settings and at the bottom is a button to share the device… this creates a new code… go to HA and add a new matter device, select it’s already in use, type the code and it’s there
Great! my Tado X is a nightmare, I continue to have issues is a very very very bad experience with Tado
So with the Nest Gen 2 end of life announcement coming with a 50% off offer for the Starter Kit: Wireless Smart Thermostat X which is Matter compatible.
The big question is…
“If you had to start again would you take this offer?”
is the matter side working with home assistant? or would you go with a different thermostat?
@agners Any changes in available entities with recent FW updates?
Hello every one.
I’m new to HA and i’m trying to experiment.
I have a tado X system and i’m having problem with the boiler, cause after a cicle of heating when the radiators turn off the boiler keep heating and go in fault mode because of the pressure to high.
I figure out that the problem is that the thermostat swich off the boiler delayed instead of the radiators that close immediately, this cause a build up of pressure system.
So now i try to connect all the device at HA via MATTER to configure a command delay of close valves or anticipate the boiler turn off.
Anyone can help me?
I am also interested in the answer here.
I’d also like to know this.
It appears that auto away/home on the Tado is an additional cost, but I get HA to manage this for me anyway, so is this accessible via Matter?
Also considering a Sonoff Mini and a temperature sensor.
I have Tado X working over Matter in Home Assistent
The way to go is to set it up in the Tado app and then add it to Home Assistent as a Matter device (not using Tado to share it ). This only gives you the most basic features as turn on and off and set the temperature. This is a Matter problem as the instruction sets for Matter are very very limited.
I’m not using any other functions from Tado itself as HA knows when I’m home or not and when windows are open and triggers automations for the set temperature that way.
I am unable to get the Tado integration from Home Assistant to work after Tado changed their login system for months now, and even if I could I wouldn’t trust it anymore anyway.
I was about to get myself radiator valves as well, but everything is on hold now. Although it keeps doing its magic and everything works perfectly, there is really no way to make anything else visisble outside the Tado app than the set and current temperure and humidity. I might change from vendor, one that is not cloud based at all.
This is by the way the third vendor for me who’s integration into HA is no longer working because of various reasons.
Hello again every-one.
I’m trying to figure out how to set up a decent algorithm to create a heat program that command the boiler (tado X thermostat) from the state of rooms temperatures (tado X radiator valves).
All device connected with matter, but i’m running out of my mind xD.
My main problem is:
When the boiler is ON and all radiators valves are closing because the temperature is reached, valvs close immediatly but the boiler need to go for 30 second, even if I turn it OFF due to a delay inside the boiler.
So i think i need to turn the “climate.set_temperature” of at least one radiator higher to open the circuit and let the hot water flow inside it and don’t stay inside the boiler to don’t build up pressure inside it.
Theoretically is okay… practically… not much.
I was also wondering whether to take up the offer.
The early nest experience with HA was pretty good.
But the google years have not been great.
From the feedback in this thread it seems like more of the same.
The local Honeywell T6 zwave was the other option I was considering - but they seem discontinued.
Well I am 3 days in and I would wait as I am tearing my hair out!
The Nest (also Gen 2) works perfectly in HA (admittedly the Google Cloud setup took a bit of doing) but the Tado X is horrible. I have also purchased the Tado Bridge (at almost £60) but have to wait for firmware updates that you can trigger yourself for Matter to show up (apparently).
It also took almost a day just to get the thermostat to pair with my account - my phone wasn’t playing at all but it did work with my wife’s.
As for getting it working with HA I am not there yet, and considering sending it back and sticking with nest until they turn us off in October …
I should also add that with Tado X, there is no (well not yet) having your home warm when you wake up unless you actually set the timer for earlier. The learning side of the Nest making sure your home is the temperature you want when you want is still a killer feature. Also the Tado X thermostat is ugly and doesn’t detect your presence to show you current temperature when you walk passed. Button presses only, hence a further desire for integration with Home Assistant (and the opportunity for a Raspberry pi smart screen with motion detector project)
Do you have a step by step guide you followed to get this working? I have recently purchased the Tado X and then the Tado Bridge X but Matter is showing as greyed out in the Tado app
The Tado app can’t share the device yet, it’s grayed out but here is what I did
I am using the SkyConnect from HA (ZBT-1) which is configured as a Thread dongle (must have!). I also have a few mini homepods which also work as a thread border router. I’m also using Homekit Bridge in HA to share my devices in Homekit, because we (my wife) likes that interface the most. Anything Apple and homekit related can also be ignored as it is not nessecarry at all. I am also not using the Tado bridge as it just adds another router.
Setup the device as usual with the Tado app. This might not even be nessecarry but I did to make sure it did all the learning stuff like early start and such.
Connect the device to Home Assistant. Go to the HA app, add new device and select Matter device and select a new one, scan the QR code and that’s about it.
OR… including the homekit setup
Setup the device as usual with the Tado app. This might not even be nessecarry but I did to make sure it did all the learning stuff like early start and such.
Connect the device to Homekit (optional). Go to Apple Home, add new device and scan the QR code from the device. Thats pretty much it.
Connect the device to Home Assistent. Go to Apple Home and press/hold the tado device, select settings and go to the bottom, select the share modus button, this will generate a code. Go to HA and add new device, select Matter and then a device that is already in use, enter the code and thats about it.
The whole Matter connecting can be a pain at times, for several devices it had to try like 5 or 6 times
Thanks for the detailed description. I purchased the Tado Bridge X but it doesn’t help (as you have pointed out). Weirdly, and I am weaiting on Tado support to get back to me, my wife’s phone (same make but different model to mine) does have the Matter option available, but it fails with “Something went wrong”.
I have the Matter Server for Home Assistant running as a docker image on a Raspberry pi and Home Assistant itself in a separate docker container on the same pi. They at least talk to each other OK, so just the last gew (important ) steps to figure out!
Thanks
The Tado Bridge is only usefull if you have no other matter router available
Forgot to mention, I am running Home Assistant OS on a Raspberry pi and using their built-in Matter server with the ZBT-1 antenna configured for Thread. You might want to consider that as running HA as a docker container has its limitations.
If you have your own boiler and a closed circuit, then with Tado or another smart thermostat, you must always have at least one radiator open. Choose one and never put any smart valve on it. It is a golden rule)
