What Wall Switch Options are there?

Check them at AliExpress, GearBest

Nice, but not much use in NZ due to form factor. I’ll keep an eye out to see if they have NZ/AU/US model.

Thanks.

I’ve asked around in the google group for sonoff tasmota and apparently you can flash sonoff tasmota on it as confirmed by another user. But there was no response after I asked how to flash it

Anyone who’s flashed firmware on sonoff touch could help me out here?
How should I connect the GPIO to the GND for FTDI? A diagram would help

i used this page for the visuals altho i flashed tasmota instead of espeasy http://xbmcnut.blogspot.hr/2017/02/how-to-flash-espeasy-onto-sonoff-touch.html

Actually discussed quite a few alternatives in this thread.

In the end the the TC2 switches are great, but I would prefer wireless ones to translate the state but being in South Africa I need the US dimensions with the 220V and only they offer that option at a decent price. They also don’t put any branding on the switch so you don’t have to live with a US spec switch with the name running down the side ruining the aesthetics.

Looking at possibly getting that Ankuoo switch but haven’t ever gotten into the area of buying wifi enabled switches. Our house was built in 1944 so things are not always up to date. That’s why for interior lights I went with the Hue system. I’m wanting two switches for our outdoor lights. These Ankuoo NEO switches seem to be the most affordable.

  1. Do they work with HomeAssistant just straight out of the box? I don’t know how to do anything with MQTT, so I would rather avoid that.

  2. Does my outlet look up to date to use this? I know I’m required to have a white neutral wire and when I opened it up to check, I have a white wire. (there is a ground on the other side)

In the end I may actually be getting one of those TP Link hs200. Those look like they work out of the box with home assistant much more easily than these other ones even though they’re little bit more expensive.

How about this?

You’ve already asked about that one.

Oh sorry, I didn’t realise it was he one I linked due to it being almost half the price though.

Have you tested yours yet?

I was browsing aliexpress, and I found a bunch of wifi wall switch based on itead chipset that starts to pop up

https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=SB_20170701193612&SearchText=WiFi+Touch+Wall+Switch+Alexa

Should make purchasing easier for anyone from europe/us

I’ve managed to install sonoff tasmota firmware on mine that I grabbed from taobao.
What I did was solder the jumper cables directly to the 3v3,tx,rx & gnd pins on the esp8285 chip and start flashing on it (using sonoff 4ch module).
I can see switch/relay turning off/on using mqtt but I have’t install them yet on the wall since it requires neutral wire like with sonoff touch.

Found a similar model like mine on aliexpress here

Itead just announced some new product lineup
That includes sonoff t1 which is another version of sonoff touch that comes with 2/3 gang + RF.
Should be hack-able-friendly compared to other touch switch I’ve used before

https://www.itead.cc/smart-home/sonoff-t1.html

Looks like google assistant skill will also be coming soon

so is also RF control, not only wifi?

So with RF I give the command and with WiFi it gives back the status?

Also interesting if it needs the Neutral or not (the other model needs the neutral)

Yeah, both
Which makes it better than most touch switch on the market since they only offer either one of them

Yes that’s pretty cool.

But in case og Google Home or Alexa it should work with WiFi only. For RF you will need an extra remote or a Broadlink RM PRO

Exactly, so start whip out those extra programmable rf remotes or the logitech harmony hub

It still needs neutral wire for installation

yes I guess the neutral is needed to send the WiFi signal.

A smart manufacturer could do a product without the need for Neutral, maybe putting a small rechargeable battery in the wall switch, for sending the WiFi signal when it has no load

Not having a neutral wire is what almost all of us need I’m sure so when one of those arises then that’ll be fantastic. I’m really happy with the TC2 switches but when you’re manually turning them off at the wall and it doesn’t show the state in HA then that’s a bit annoying.

First manufacture who can make neutral free wifi switches that can integrate into HA will make big $$.

Do any of the itead wall switches have a dimming function? Or just on and off?

No dimming function yet.
