Looking at possibly getting that Ankuoo switch but haven’t ever gotten into the area of buying wifi enabled switches. Our house was built in 1944 so things are not always up to date. That’s why for interior lights I went with the Hue system. I’m wanting two switches for our outdoor lights. These Ankuoo NEO switches seem to be the most affordable.
Do they work with HomeAssistant just straight out of the box? I don’t know how to do anything with MQTT, so I would rather avoid that.
Does my outlet look up to date to use this? I know I’m required to have a white neutral wire and when I opened it up to check, I have a white wire. (there is a ground on the other side)
In the end I may actually be getting one of those TP Link hs200. Those look like they work out of the box with home assistant much more easily than these other ones even though they’re little bit more expensive.
Should make purchasing easier for anyone from europe/us
I’ve managed to install sonoff tasmota firmware on mine that I grabbed from taobao.
What I did was solder the jumper cables directly to the 3v3,tx,rx & gnd pins on the esp8285 chip and start flashing on it (using sonoff 4ch module).
I can see switch/relay turning off/on using mqtt but I have’t install them yet on the wall since it requires neutral wire like with sonoff touch.
Found a similar model like mine on aliexpress here
Itead just announced some new product lineup
That includes sonoff t1 which is another version of sonoff touch that comes with 2/3 gang + RF.
Should be hack-able-friendly compared to other touch switch I’ve used before
yes I guess the neutral is needed to send the WiFi signal.
A smart manufacturer could do a product without the need for Neutral, maybe putting a small rechargeable battery in the wall switch, for sending the WiFi signal when it has no load
Not having a neutral wire is what almost all of us need I’m sure so when one of those arises then that’ll be fantastic. I’m really happy with the TC2 switches but when you’re manually turning them off at the wall and it doesn’t show the state in HA then that’s a bit annoying.
First manufacture who can make neutral free wifi switches that can integrate into HA will make big $$.
I’ve often wondered this myself. Why not have a relay that switches power to the lights, and a battery that powers it that can recharge whenever the light is on.
Seems so obvious, but not a single device available.
I might have to hold my plans to replace ‘dumb’ switch and have neutral cable wired on each wall switch
Sonoff T1 seems to be the best option right now, but no 4 gang option yet
I’ll just use other third party 4 gang wifi switch for that
anyone tried one of these? z wave switch. I want something I can use on my hue bulbs, as my wife gets annoyed having to either talk to echo or grab her phone. I need something for the living room and bedroom.
